The Goal:

The Atlantic Gaelic Academy (AGA^tm) is a Gaelic language school, dedicated to teaching its students to read, write, and speak the Gaelic language. Its goal is to increase the number of Gaelic speakers by making Gaelic-learning programs, courses, and education available to students of the language.

The AGA:

• Develops, provides, and administers Gaelic-learning programs for students of the language.
• Conducts Gaelic language classes at specific locations.
• Makes live Gaelic-learning classes available to remote areas through the latest technology.
• Provides a structured approach to learning the language.
• Provides a course of studies where students can progress from Beginner level through Advanced level.
• Provides a course of studies with pre-written standardized lesson plans for students and instructors.
• Provides a way for students to have the opportunity to speak to other Gaelic speakers, whenever they choose, in order to accelerate their speaking abilities in the language.

Why learn Gaelic:

• The Gaelic language is the soul and root of the Celtic culture and to best understand the culture, knowledge of the language is required.
• The Gaelic language is worth learning as it has intrinsic value and provides enjoyment and richness to life.
• Gaelic learners can become part of the Celtic cultural community, which includes musicians, singers, dancers, Gaelic speakers and students.
• Parents with knowledge of Gaelic can be of more help to their children and grandchildren to learn the language.
• The knowledge of Gaelic is of considerable help when doing Genealogy research on Scottish and Irish ancestors.
• There are currently employment opportunities in North America that require knowledge of Gaelic.
• More job openings for Gaelic speakers are also expected in the future because of the current policy of Governments, and other private groups, to promote and advance the Gaelic language.
• Medical experts say that in order to maintain or enhance our quality of life, we must exercise our minds as well as our bodies, and that learning a new language is one of the best ways to exercise the mind.
• There are also currently many job openings in Scotland for Gaelic speakers, and many more are projected for the future.
